Film lovers in Romford are in for a spectacular treat this year, as Vue cinema announces a stellar line-up of world-class theatre, ballet, and opera productions set to grace its big screens throughout the first quarter of 2026.
A Season of Stage and Screen
The programme offers an exceptional opportunity to experience the magic of live performance from some of the UK's most prestigious institutions, all from the comfort of a cinema seat. The season kicks off in January with a powerful blend of Shakespearean drama and operatic grandeur.
From 22 January, the National Theatre presents a bold, contemporary version of Hamlet. The production stars Olivier Award-winner Hiran Abeysekera, renowned for his role in Life of Pi, taking on the iconic title role. Simultaneously, from 14 January, audiences can immerse themselves in the Royal Ballet and Opera's lavish production of Verdi's La Traviata, directed by Richard Eyre.
Opera, Ballet and The Bard
The Royal Ballet and Opera's contributions continue with three further major productions. Wayne McGregor's Woolf Works arrives from 9 February, translating Virginia Woolf's stream-of-consciousness style into dance. From 3 March, Peter Wright's acclaimed 1985 production of the classic ballet Giselle takes over, followed by Wagner's Siegfried from 31 March, conducted by Antonio Pappano and starring Andreas Schager.
Shakespeare returns to Vue from 4 March with a gripping new film of Othello. This version was shot specifically for cinema at London's Theatre Royal Haymarket and is directed by Tony Award-winner Tom Morris, with an original score by PJ Harvey.
Royalty and Epic Romance
The National Theatre also brings a royal favourite back to screens. From 26 February, Academy Award-winner Helen Mirren reprises her celebrated role as Queen Elizabeth II in The Audience, the hit play that inspired Netflix's The Crown.
Rounding off the season is a monumental operatic event from the Metropolitan Opera. Wagner's Tristan und Isolde arrives from 24 March, featuring the electrifying Lise Davidsen as Isolde and Michael Spyres as Tristan, promising a transcendent exploration of love and death.
