Prince George is set to follow in his father's footsteps by attending Eton College, Kensington Palace has confirmed. The 12-year-old eldest son of Prince William and Kate Middleton will finish his final term at Lambrook School in Berkshire in July before starting at the prestigious boys' school near Windsor this September.
A Family Tradition
Prince William, his brother Prince Harry, and their uncle Earl Spencer all attended Eton, which costs £63,000 per year. The college has also educated 20 prime ministers, including Boris Johnson and David Cameron, as well as celebrities like Bear Grylls, Eddie Redmayne, and Tom Hiddleston.
William's Time at Eton
William, then 18, told People magazine in 2000 that his final year at Eton was spent studying biology while playing water polo, football, and polo. 'I've really enjoyed being able to go about Eton as just another student,' he said.
Harry's Experience
In his memoir Spare, Harry wrote that playing sport was the only reason he didn't quit Eton. 'Rugby let me indulge my rage,' he wrote. 'I simply didn't feel pain the way other boys did, which made me scary on a pitch.'
Today's announcement ends months of speculation about George's next school. While he had been spotted leaving Eton with his parents in 2024, the family had also visited Marlborough College, where Kate attended. George, who is second in line to the throne, will turn 13 next month, the minimum age for Eton pupils.
