UK to Surpass Greece with 20C Temperatures This Week, Met Office Predicts
UK to Outshine Greece with 20C Temperatures This Week

The United Kingdom is poised to experience warmer weather than Greece this week, with the Met Office predicting temperatures soaring to 20C in certain regions. This dramatic weather shift comes as high pressure dominates, bringing unseasonably warm conditions to parts of the country.

Wednesday Set to Be Warmest Day of the Week

According to Met Office forecasts, Wednesday, March 18, 2026, will likely be the warmest day for many areas across the UK. Chief Forecaster Dan Harris explained that high pressure will create predominantly sunny conditions, with the warmest spots expected in west Wales and western England.

"Under sunny skies, 18-19C, possibly even 20C is on the cards for these regions," Harris stated. "This is due to the additional boost expected from the passage of east to south-easterly winds over areas of higher ground, known as the Foehn effect."

UK Temperatures to Outperform Greek Weather

While the UK prepares for warm spring weather, meteorological data indicates Greece will experience more moderate conditions. Weather maps compiled using MetDesk data reveal that portions of Greece will see temperatures lingering around 17C and 18C, with some areas potentially dropping to a brisk 2C.

This creates the unusual situation where popular UK destinations could be warmer than this favored European getaway destination. The contrast highlights the significant weather variation occurring across Europe this week.

Regional Weather Variations Across the UK

The Met Office predicts a "dry, warm and mostly sunny day" across England and Wales on Wednesday. Northern Scotland is expected to remain bright, while the remainder of Scotland and Northern Ireland will experience cloudier conditions with occasional rain.

A Netweather.tv forecaster noted in her weather blog: "The warm plume of air from Spain will linger for Wales, southwest and central England and temperatures will be around 14C to 16C but could move into the high teens with more sunshine. Bristol could see 20C on Wednesday and will have a lovely day."

Extended Forecast Through the Weekend

Looking beyond Wednesday, the Met Office's extended forecast from Thursday through Sunday indicates continued pleasant conditions with some regional variations:

  • Thursday will bring some cloud in the north and northeast, otherwise largely sunny conditions
  • Gentle winds will maintain warm feelings throughout most areas
  • Patchy rain is expected in the far northwest thereafter
  • Most regions will stay fine but experience cooler overall temperatures

This weather pattern represents a significant departure from typical March conditions in the UK, offering residents and visitors alike an unexpected taste of early spring warmth that may even surpass Mediterranean destinations like Greece during the same period.
