Residents in Islington are being advised of important changes to their regular waste and recycling collection schedules over the upcoming festive period.
Revised Collection Dates for Bank Holidays
As the council does not operate a collection service on bank holidays, all scheduled pickups will be shifted by one day. This adjustment affects collections for mixed recycling, food waste, garden waste, and general rubbish.
The revised schedule is as follows:
- If your usual collection day is Thursday 25 December, your bins will now be emptied on Friday 26 December.
- Collections normally on Friday 26 December will move to Saturday 27 December.
- Services due on Thursday 1 January will instead take place on Friday 2 January.
- Pickups scheduled for Friday 2 January are rescheduled for Saturday 3 January.
Normal collection services will resume from Monday 5 January 2026.
Christmas Tree Recycling Service
For those with real Christmas trees, the council will operate a special collection service. Trees left outside homes will be collected on residents' usual collection days between Monday 5 January and Friday 16 January.
Alternatively, locals can take their trees to one of several designated drop-off points across the borough. The confirmed locations are:
- Barnard Park
- Elthorne Park
- King’s Square Gardens
- Rosemary Gardens
- Wray Park Crescent (park end)
- Spa Fields
- Tufnell Park
- Highbury Crescent
- Paradise Park
A Green Reminder for the Festive Season
Islington Council has also issued an environmental plea to residents. A spokesperson encouraged everyone to “do your bit for the environment by recycling your food waste when you’re making Christmas dinner!”
This reminder highlights the importance of diverting organic waste from landfill, especially during a period of increased household consumption. By adhering to the revised schedules and utilising the recycling services, residents can help manage the borough's festive waste efficiently.
