Sutton's Festive Bin Collection Timetable: Key Changes for Christmas 2025
Sutton Christmas bin collection changes 2025

Sutton residents are being advised of significant changes to their regular bin collection schedule over the upcoming Christmas and New Year period. The council has released a special festive timetable, meaning many households will see their collection days shift.

Revised Collection Dates for the Festive Period

The alterations are necessary due to the public holidays. Collections originally scheduled for Christmas Day, Thursday 25 December 2025, will now take place two days later on Saturday 27 December.

Bins due for collection on Boxing Day, Friday 26 December, will be picked up three days later on Monday 29 December.

For the following week, collections planned for Monday 29 December and Tuesday 30 December will be delayed by one day. The same one-day delay applies to collections on Wednesday 31 December and Thursday 1 January 2026.

Further Changes in the New Year

The schedule adjustments continue into early January. A collection scheduled for Friday 2 January 2026 will be pushed back by three days to Monday 5 January.

Furthermore, all collections from Monday 5 January to Friday 9 January will also be collected one day later than usual. This means residents whose bins are normally emptied on a Friday will receive a Saturday collection that week.

Normal bin collection schedules for Sutton will fully resume from Monday 12 January 2026.

Free Christmas Tree Recycling Service

In addition to the revised collections, Sutton Council is operating a complimentary Christmas tree disposal scheme. Residents wishing to use this service must place their real tree out by 6am on Tuesday 30 December.

It is essential that all decorations, tinsel, and stands are removed, and the tree is taken out of its pot. The council notes that collections will occur within a four-week window starting from 30 December, so crews could arrive on any day during that period.

Alternatively, genuine Christmas trees can be taken for free recycling to the borough's Household Refuse and Recycling Centre at Kimpton Park Way.

The council has also provided some creative suggestions for used trees, such as chopping them up to create a winter habitat for garden wildlife or adding the pieces to a home compost heap.

Residents should note that if a tree is simply left beside the general rubbish bin on collection day, it will not be recycled but will be disposed of with the rest of the household waste.
