BBC Radio 2 presenter Eddie Nestor has announced he will step away from his work following a cancer diagnosis. The 62-year-old actor and comedian shared the news on social media, describing it as a post he never imagined writing.
Cancer diagnosis and treatment
Nestor revealed that he spent Father's Day in hospital and has since begun chemotherapy. 'The good news is that, thanks to an incredible medical team, I've now had my first chemotherapy treatment,' he wrote. He did not specify the type of cancer, though in 2007 he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, from which he was believed to be in remission.
Stepping back from work
Nestor said he would be posting less and reducing his workload to focus on recovery. 'Don't feel sorry for me,' he urged fans, asking instead for 'prayers, your love and your encouragement and the occasional laugh.' He also asked for support for his wife Lisa, a fitness instructor.
BBC statement
A BBC spokesperson said: 'Our friend and colleague Eddie Nestor has announced that he will be away from Radio London for a period of time while he receives treatment for cancer. Everyone at BBC London sends Eddie and his family our love and support.'
Career highlights
Nestor, who holds an MBE, has hosted the Drive Time show on BBC Radio London since 2020. He is also known for acting roles in Casualty and Death in Paradise.
