The family of a 14-year-old boy have paid a heartfelt tribute after he died following a tragic incident involving a farm vehicle in County Durham.

A Tragic Incident on a County Durham Farm

Aaron Anderson sustained life-threatening injuries after a John Deere Gator was involved in a collision at a farm in Burnopfield, County Durham, on the evening of 21 December. Emergency services were called to the scene at 8.25pm. Aaron was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, where he sadly passed away on Boxing Day.

Family Remembers a 'Cheeky Chappie' with a Passion for Farming

In a statement released on Tuesday, Aaron's family remembered him as a "cheeky chappie who was always smiling and would never fail to brighten up your day". They described the teenager, from Consett, as a much-loved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend who will be deeply missed.

"Aaron was always happiest working on farms and fixing trucks," the family said. "Even at the age of 14 he had an amazing work ethic and already had two apprenticeship offers."

They added: "Although we are saddened about the life he will never have, we are so thankful for the life he has lived and will cherish all the happy memories he left us with."

Ongoing Investigation and Community Support

A 13-year-old boy also sustained serious injuries in the same incident. He was treated in hospital and is now recovering at home.

Police confirmed that an investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the collision. They have appealed for anyone with information that could assist the inquiry to come forward.

Aaron's family expressed their gratitude for the "overwhelming response" from friends, family, and the local community. They also thanked the ambulance service, police, and the staff at the Royal Victoria Infirmary for their support during an incredibly difficult time.

"Our thoughts and well wishes are also with everyone else affected by this tragic incident," the family stated. "We would now ask to be left in peace to grieve the loss of our son."

The John Deere Gator involved is a utility vehicle, larger than a quad bike but smaller than a tractor, commonly used in agricultural settings.
