The Metropolitan Police were notified shortly after 1:20 PM on Wednesday, March 31, 2026, that Menelik, a 46-year-old patient, had slipped away from staff during an escorted visit to shops near Deptford Dockland Light Railway Station.

According to police reports, Menelik is believed to have boarded a number 53 bus heading towards Lambeth North following his escape. PC Luke Hill, who is leading the investigation, stated, "My team are continuing to carry out extensive enquiries to locate Menelik, but he remains missing. Menelik is described as approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, black jogging bottoms, and blue trainers. Police have indicated that he has known links to the Streatham area and is also known to frequent Brixton.
