A four-year-old British girl has died after drowning in a hotel swimming pool in Lanzarote, Spain. The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. yesterday at a hotel in the resort of Playa Blanca. Emergency medical responders attempted to revive the girl at the scene, but she passed away.
Emergency Response
Ambulances, police, and an emergency services helicopter were mobilised to the scene. The regional government emergency response coordination centre confirmed that a lifeguard had pulled the girl from the pool and initiated resuscitation manoeuvres. A coordinating nurse in the operations room instructed the lifeguard to continue CPR after confirming the girl had gone into cardiac arrest. Two ambulances and a medical helicopter were deployed, but advanced resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.
Investigation Underway
The Civil Guard, under the coordination of an investigating judge, is leading an ongoing probe into the girl's death. Authorities have stated that there is nothing at this stage to suggest it was anything other than a tragic accident.
Similar Tragedy Days Earlier
This incident comes days after another British four-year-old boy died after falling into a swimming pool at a holiday home near the Costa del Sol. Police and paramedics responded to the rural home, and a helicopter was also mobilised. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. Periana Council expressed condolences to the family, stating: 'Today is a deeply sad day for our town. On behalf of Periana Town Council, we would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the child who has passed away. There are no words that can ease such immense grief, but we do wish to convey to you all our love, support and solidarity at this very difficult time.'
