An elderly woman has died after a serious assault at a residential property in Wiltshire on Christmas Day, with a suspect known to the victim now in police custody.
Christmas Morning Tragedy in Devizes
Emergency services, including police officers and paramedics, were called to an address on Keepers Road in Devizes early on the morning of Thursday 25 December 2025. Despite their efforts, the victim, a woman in her 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Suspect Arrested and Hospitalised
Wiltshire Police confirmed they have arrested a 63-year-old woman on suspicion of murder. The suspect, who is known to the deceased, was taken to hospital with injuries described as non life-changing. She remains under arrest while receiving medical treatment.
Detective Inspector Alan Smith addressed the incident, stating: "This is a tragic incident in which an elderly woman has lost her life on Christmas Day. We have arrested a woman who is known to the victim and I can confirm we are not looking for anyone else in connection with it."
Ongoing Investigation and Community Reassurance
Police have established a cordon at the address, which is expected to remain in place throughout Christmas Day and into Boxing Day. Officers are currently working to formally identify the victim and locate her next of kin.
Authorities have moved to reassure concerned local residents, promising an increased policing presence in the area over the coming days. Detective Inspector Smith urged the public: "If you have any concerns, or you have any information, please don't hesitate to speak to one of our officers."
