A man has been rushed to hospital with serious gunshot wounds following a shooting on a busy south-east London high street in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Early Morning Incident on Broadway
Emergency services were called to Broadway in Bexleyheath at around 2:10am on Sunday, 4 January 2026, following reports of a shooting. The Metropolitan Police and London Ambulance Service (LAS) responded swiftly to the scene.
Paramedics treated two men at the location. One, a 30-year-old man, was found with a gunshot wound. The other man sustained a head injury. Both were subsequently transported to hospital for further treatment. The current condition of the gunshot victim is not yet known.
Suspect Arrested at the Scene
Officers from the Met Police made an arrest at the scene. A 35-year-old man was detained on suspicion of attempted murder. Due to injuries he had sustained, believed to be the head injury reported, he was also taken to a hospital. He remains under police guard.
Photographs from the incident show a significant police presence, with several marked vans stationed near the Esso garage on Broadway. A police cordon was established to allow for a forensic examination of the area.

The Metropolitan Police have launched an investigation and are appealing to the public for information. A spokesperson stated: "Anyone with information that may assist police is asked to call 101 quoting CAD 630/04Jan."
The London Ambulance Service confirmed their extensive response, sending multiple resources including ambulance crews, paramedics in fast response cars, and an incident response officer. A trauma team from London's Air Ambulance was also dispatched by car to the scene to provide advanced critical care.
