Two people have died and a third is fighting for their life in hospital after a car veered off a rural road and plunged into an ice-cold river in Kent. The tragic incident occurred near the village of Iwade on Saturday evening.
Emergency Services Rush to Scene
Emergency services, including police, ambulance crews, and the fire service, were called to the scene at approximately 8:30pm on Saturday, January 3, 2026. They discovered a Ford Fiesta had left the road and entered the water. One of the victims is understood to be a young girl. Friends have been paying emotional tributes at the site, with one saying she had known the girl "all her life".
Vehicle Recovery and Further Discoveries
The car was later recovered from the river by recovery teams. In a disturbing twist, three other vehicles were also found in the water nearby. It is understood these were from separate, previous incidents, highlighting the danger of that particular stretch of road.
Community in Mourning
The local community has been left reeling by the tragedy. Friends of the young female victim were seen leaving flowers and other heartfelt tributes at the scene of the fatal road accident. The third occupant of the Ford Fiesta, believed to be the girl's boyfriend, was taken to hospital for treatment. Their current condition has not been disclosed.
