Man Detained After Violent Incident at Community Hospital
Police have arrested and detained a man after six people were injured during a disturbance at a Merseyside hospital. The incident occurred at Newton Community Hospital in Newton-le-Willows on Tuesday, 31 December 2024.
Officers were called to the scene shortly after midday following reports that a man had become "increasingly agitated" after being refused an appointment. Upon arrival, they discovered that several people had been assaulted.

According to Merseyside Police, a 20-year-old man was arrested at the hospital on suspicion of:
- Six counts of section 18 wounding
- Affray
- Criminal damage
The suspect was initially taken to a police station in Merseyside but was later detained under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act. Police confirmed that a metal bar, believed to have been used during the incident, was recovered and sent for forensic examination.
Condition of the Injured and Police Response
The six people who were injured are all receiving treatment for a range of wounds. Their injuries include:
