Comedian and television personality Katherine Ryan has candidly disclosed that she underwent a significant cosmetic procedure a mere eight weeks after giving birth to her fourth child. The 43-year-old star, known for her unfiltered honesty, shared the details on her podcast, Telling Everybody Everything.
Choosing a Surgeon Who 'Gets' Her Aesthetic
Ryan was specific about selecting a surgeon whose aesthetic vision aligned with her own. She revealed she travelled to York for the procedure with an 'incredible' surgeon, deliberately choosing someone of a British and Irish background. This was a conscious move away from what she described as a specific 'Asian or Persian' aesthetic favoured by some high-profile practitioners, which she felt did not suit her features.
She cited Beverly Hills injectables expert Dr. Simon Ourian as an example, recalling a visit a decade ago where she felt she left looking 'a little more Kim Kardashian.' Ryan stated her desire was to accentuate her own natural features—a long face and narrow jawline—rather than morph into someone else. 'We need to stick as closely as possible to what mother nature intended,' she explained.
Bringing Her Newborn to the Procedure
In a move that even gave her momentary pause, Ryan elected to bring her two-month-old daughter, Holland Juliette, to the surgical appointment. The procedure itself lasted three and a half hours. Ryan, who is breastfeeding, detailed the logistical planning, which involved pumping milk for a maternity nurse to feed the baby during the surgery and resuming breastfeeding shortly afterwards.
She admitted to a moment of self-doubt post-surgery, questioning, 'Katherine Ryan, what is your damage? Why have you brought a baby to surgery?' However, she quickly reframed her thinking, comparing her elective surgery to the physical demands placed on women after childbirth, particularly referencing the major abdominal surgery involved in a Caesarean section.
A Commitment to Transparency and Personal Choice
Ryan emphasised that she is in 'zero pain' following the operation. She reiterated her longstanding policy of complete honesty regarding cosmetic work, mocking the idea of her secretly getting a procedure done. 'Can you imagine me doing something and not telling you?' she quipped.
The comedian has chosen to keep the exact nature of the surgery private for now, hinting that she hopes the experience might form part of a future documentary series. She welcomed baby Holland in October with her husband, Bobby Kootstra. Ryan is also mother to son Fred, four, daughter Fenna, two, and her eldest daughter Violet, sixteen, from a previous relationship.
