A crew member from the BBC soap EastEnders is finally coming back to Britain after surviving a catastrophic fall from an 11-storey building while in Colombia over the Christmas period.
A 'Miracle' Survival and Long Road to Recovery
The employee, named Connor, works as an electrician on the popular BBC One programme. He suffered the devastating accident abroad, resulting in nine days in a coma and requiring multiple life-saving surgeries. His mother has described his survival as nothing short of a 'miracle'.
Following the incident, Connor's family launched a fundraising campaign to cover the substantial medical costs. The appeal, organised by a woman named Victoria on GoFundMe, has seen an outpouring of support, with over £32,000 donated to date.
Fundraiser Success Enables Journey Home
Victoria has provided regular updates on Connor's condition. Last week, she reported that he had been weaned off sedation and oxygen and was out of intensive care. He was sitting up in bed, eating soft foods, and was said to be 'alert and in good spirits' despite the severity of his injuries, which include fractures requiring further surgery.
In a major development shared yesterday, Victoria announced the fantastic news that Connor is being medically repatriated to the UK. 'Thanks to your incredible generosity, love, and support, we were able to raise enough funds for medical repatriation back to UK,' she wrote.
Specialist medics from SkyCare have travelled to Colombia to accompany Connor on the flight home. Upon arrival, he will be transferred by ambulance to a UK hospital to continue his treatment. 'He still has a long recovery ahead,' Victoria noted, 'but he is coming home.'
Soap Stars Rally Around Colleague
The fundraising effort has seen support from across the EastEnders community. Notable cast members who have donated to the page include:
- Jake Wood (Max Branning)
- Scott Maslen (Jack Branning)
- Jessie Wallace (Kat Slater)
- Diane Parish (Denise Fox)
- Gillian Taylforth (Kathy Beale)
- Adam Woodyatt (Ian Beale)
Victoria concluded her latest update by stating: 'Connor is so happy and thankful to be coming home and we could not have done this without you.'
