Police have officially identified the victim of a fatal stabbing in Leicester city centre as Khaleed Oladipo, a 20-year-old student at De Montfort University. The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, resulting in Oladipo's death from a single stab wound to the chest.
Family Tribute to a Beloved Young Man
In a heartfelt statement released through Leicestershire Police, Oladipo's family expressed their profound grief and paid tribute to their lost loved one. They described Khaleed as "an extremely loved son, brother, uncle, boyfriend and friend" who was deeply cherished by all who knew him.
The family emphasised that Oladipo was "a good boy who loved his family" and was proudly in his second year of studying cybersecurity at university. They revealed that one of his main passions was football, having played since the age of four and being a dedicated Arsenal supporter.
Tragic Circumstances of the Attack
According to his family, Oladipo was believed to be on his way home to watch a football match when he was fatally attacked. The incident has left his loved ones struggling to comprehend why anyone would commit such a violent act against the young student.
An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the stabbing, and police investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
Gratitude for Emergency Response
Oladipo's family expressed their sincere thanks to the members of the public who stopped to try and help him during the attack, as well as to the ambulance service and hospital staff who worked tirelessly in their attempts to save his life.
They also acknowledged their appreciation for the police efforts in the investigation, stating: "We are really grateful to the police for their efforts in the investigation so far to ensure the person responsible is brought to justice."
Quest for Justice
While acknowledging that justice will not bring their loved one back, the family emphasised their determination to ensure Oladipo receives the justice he deserves. They stated: "We know getting justice for Khaleed will not bring him back but we will make sure that he gets the justice he deserves."
The tragic loss of this promising cybersecurity student has sent shockwaves through the Leicester community and the university campus, highlighting ongoing concerns about violent crime affecting young people in urban areas.
