Metropolitan Police Detective Dismissed for Gross Misconduct Involving Sex Workers and Drugs
A Metropolitan Police detective has been dismissed from the force after engaging in serious misconduct involving the use of sex workers and class A drugs during multiple trips abroad over a seven-year period.
Details of the Misconduct and Investigation
Detective Constable Pervaz Malik, who served in the central west command unit, was found to have organized sex workers for himself and others while on overseas trips between 2016 and August 2023. Additionally, he used class A drugs and assisted others in purchasing these substances during these excursions.
In February 2024, Malik further compounded his misconduct by refusing to provide the access code for his mobile phone while a criminal investigation was underway. This obstruction hindered the investigative process and demonstrated a clear disregard for police protocols.
Disciplinary Panel Findings and Official Statements
A disciplinary panel concluded on Tuesday that Malik had committed gross misconduct by violating the standards of professional behavior expected of police officers. The panel emphasized that his actions represented a severe breach of public trust and the ethical obligations of his role.
Detective Chief Superintendent Chrissy Jessah, who oversees policing in central west London, stated, "Police officers play a crucial role in protecting vulnerable individuals from violence and exploitation. Any deviation from this duty constitutes a serious breach of public trust." She added, "DC Malik was fully aware that his actions directly contradicted his responsibilities to safeguard the public and the strict regulations against drug use. His conduct was entirely unacceptable and fell far below the standards demanded by both the organization and the public."
Arrest and Subsequent Proceedings
Malik was arrested at Stansted Airport on August 15, 2023, on suspicion of conspiracy to supply controlled drugs. However, the Crown Prosecution Service later closed the case without pursuing further action, according to the Metropolitan Police.
Following his arrest, Malik was suspended from duty and remained suspended until the misconduct hearing on Tuesday. As a result of the dismissal, he will be added to the barred list, permanently prohibiting him from working in any police force in the future.
This case highlights the Metropolitan Police's commitment to upholding high standards of conduct and accountability within its ranks, ensuring that officers who engage in unethical behavior face appropriate consequences.
