No Suspect Yet in Abduction of Savannah Guthrie's Mother

Law enforcement officials in Arizona are continuing their investigation into the apparent abduction of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of prominent Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, with no suspect yet identified in the case.

Ongoing Investigation and Family Cooperation

In a recent statement shared on social media platform X, the Pima County Sheriff's Department confirmed that detectives are actively speaking with anyone who may have had contact with Nancy Guthrie and are working closely with the Guthrie family. The department emphasised that, at this point, investigators have not identified a suspect or person of interest.

The statement also urged the public to refrain from sharing unverified accusations or false information, noting that such actions are irresponsible and do not assist the ongoing investigation.

Details of the Disappearance

Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on Sunday after a family member received a call from a member of her church stating that she was not present. Following a search of her home near Tucson, her family members reported her disappearance to local authorities. She is believed to have been last seen around 9:30 PM on Saturday night.

Authorities have indicated that they believe Guthrie was taken from her home against her will. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos stated, "She is very limited in her mobility, we know she didn't just walk out of there, that we know. There were other things at the scene that indicate that she did not leave on her own."

According to reports citing law enforcement sources, there were signs of forced entry and blood found at the residence in the Catalina Foothills area where Guthrie was last seen.

Family Response and Public Appeal

On Monday evening, Savannah Guthrie took to Instagram to ask for prayers for her mother's safe return. She wrote, "Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. Raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment. We need you."

In response to the situation, Savannah Guthrie has cancelled plans to travel to Milan to cover the Olympic opening ceremony and is currently in Arizona with her family.

The investigation remains active as authorities continue to gather information and appeal for any relevant leads from the public.
