Russian Strikes Kill 12 in Ukraine, Including Child, as Attacks Intensify
Russian forces launched a devastating series of drone and missile strikes across Ukraine overnight, resulting in the deaths of at least twelve people, including a child, according to local authorities. The attacks targeted multiple cities, causing widespread destruction and injuries.
Multiple Cities Targeted in Coordinated Assault
The southern port city of Odesa was hit particularly hard, with six fatalities confirmed by Sergiy Lysak, the head of the city's military administration. He reported the casualties via Telegram on Thursday, detailing the severe impact of the missile and drone barrage.
In the capital Kyiv, at least four people lost their lives, including a twelve-year-old child, as stated by Ukraine's state emergency service. The attack caused a residential building in the Podilsky district to collapse, with rescuers working tirelessly to pull survivors from the rubble. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that the assault wounded at least ten individuals, including several medical personnel.
Additionally, missile debris ignited a fire in the Obolonsky district, where vehicles were engulfed in flames, exacerbating the chaos. Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv's military administration, urgently advised civilians to seek shelter until the missile alert was officially lifted.
Casualties and Damage Extend Beyond Kyiv
The central city of Dnipro reported two fatalities, according to Oleksandr Ganzha, the regional administration head. He earlier noted that ten people were wounded, including a forty-year-old woman hospitalized in serious condition. It remains unclear if she was among the deceased.
In the north-eastern city of Kharkiv, a drone strike injured a seventy-seven-year-old woman and a sixty-six-year-old man, as confirmed by Oleh Syniehubov, the head of the regional military administration, on Telegram.
Escalation in Russian Attack Patterns
This latest wave of violence underscores a troubling escalation in Russia's military strategy. Moscow has been conducting near-nightly drone attacks on Ukraine since the conflict began four years ago, but has recently expanded these assaults to include daytime strikes, increasing the threat to civilian populations.
The attacks have not only caused immediate loss of life but have also inflicted significant damage on infrastructure, including residential areas and emergency services. The international community continues to monitor the situation closely as the war persists with no immediate end in sight.
