Beauty Queen's Controversial Stunt Sparks Backlash
Miss Chile contestant Inna Moll has issued a public apology after footage emerged of her pretending to snort cocaine during preparations for the Miss Universe beauty pageant in Thailand. The incident occurred when the model recreated a social media trend by sprinkling makeup powder on her wrist and mimicking snorting it to Shakira's song Addicted to You.
Makeup Artist Blamed for Controversial Video
In a emotional social media video posted on November 9, 2025, Moll claimed her makeup artist encouraged the ill-advised stunt. The 2025 Miss Universe contestant explained there may have been a language barrier that contributed to the misunderstanding. "I told him no," Moll stated in her apology. "But he just kept going, going, going and with everything that's going on, obviously I didn't refuse."
The model expressed deep regret for her actions, saying: "I want to sincerely apologise to anyone who felt they were taken advantage of." She acknowledged she should have "flat out refused" to participate in the controversial video that quickly drew criticism from her followers and the wider pageant community.
Immediate Fallout and Support
The backlash was swift, with one X user accusing Moll of "making Chile look bad" on the international stage. Critics suggested the incident could jeopardise her position in the competition, which is scheduled to take place on November 21 at the Impact Challenger Hall in Pak Kret, Thailand.
However, the makeup artist involved, identified through an Instagram account named Eak_makeup, also issued an apology. The account, which features photos of Moll and other Miss Universe contestants, stated: "I'm deeply sorry for what happened. I sincerely apologise to Miss Chile and everyone involved." The artist described the action as "thoughtless" and without "hidden intent to harm the contestant or the country's image."
Despite the controversy, some fans rallied behind Moll. One supporter commented: "We accept your apology! It's obvious it wasn't meant to be malicious." Another added: "Thank you very much for your apology; that speaks very well of you. I hope this doesn't damage our queen's participation."
Not the First Miss Universe Controversy
This incident marks the second controversy to hit the Miss Universe organization in recent weeks. In early November, pageant organiser and co-owner Nawat Itsaragrisil appeared to call Miss Mexico "dumb," sparking a mass walkout by contestants in solidarity.
According to BBC reports, Mr Nawat had publicly berated Mexico's Fátima Bosch for not participating in activities promoting host nation Thailand. When Bosch objected, Mr Nawat called security and threatened to disqualify supporters, leading to Miss Mexico leaving the room followed by other contestants. The organiser has since apologised for that incident.
Despite the recent controversy, Moll remained optimistic about her chances in the competition, telling fans: "This is just the beginning so I'm super excited to give it my all" and assuring them that "no one is going to take away my desire to do things right."
