The candidates standing in the North Acton by-election have been announced two weeks after the resignation of a Green councillor. Only one of the candidates stood in the ward at the local elections last month.
The contest follows the sudden resignation of Green Party councillor Simon Anthony. Councillor Anthony won his seat at the local elections on May 7, beating Labour candidate Guneet Singh Malik but gave up his seat within days, saying he could no longer perform the role.
Labour candidate change
Guneet Singh Malik has not been offered a chance to run again, with Labour opting to stand former group whip Gareth Shaw. Mr Shaw had been a councillor in the Walpole ward, however he was moved to South Acton for the local elections, after there were concerns that his original ward would be lost. Eventually, both wards were lost, and Mr Shaw was unseated, coming fifth.
Liberal Democrats aim for victory
Ealing Liberal Democrats will be hoping to continue their run of by-election victories in the borough with candidate Abdi Ahmed. Mr Ahmed works for a Liberal Democrat MP as a Parliamentary Researcher and previously worked on a £48 million UK Foreign Office programme.
Other candidates
The Greens have selected a former Extinction Rebellion activist Marijin van de Greer. She previously stood in the nearby ward of East Acton on May 7 but was not elected.
Sally Gorman, for the Conservatives, is the only candidate standing in North Acton who was also on the ward's ballot paper on May 7. She won 551 votes that time around.
The leader of the Ealing Community Independents, Craig Smith, is the other candidate standing.
