Newly released mobile phone footage has cast fresh light on the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis, an incident filmed by the very Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent who fired the gun. The video, which has been reshared by US Vice President JD Vance on the social media platform X, presents a stark account of the confrontation that led to Good's death on Friday 9 January 2026.
The Confrontation Captured on Camera
The video begins with Good and her wife appearing to be in a heated exchange with the ICE officer. After Good tells the agent "that's fine dude, I'm not mad at you," he proceeds to walk around their car. Good's wife, who is also filming, is heard taunting the officer, asking twice if he wants to "come at us?" before telling him to "go get yourself some lunch big boy." The tension escalates rapidly when another ICE agent strides towards the vehicle where Good is behind the wheel and commands her to "Get out of the f***ing car."
The Moment of the Shooting
In response to the command, Good first reverses her car before moving it forward, coming close to the officer. It remains unclear from the footage whether the vehicle made contact with the agent or narrowly missed him. At this point, the agent exclaims in shock and discharges his firearm multiple times into the vehicle. As Good's car careers down the road before crashing into parked vehicles, the agent who filmed the incident appears to mutter "f***ing bitch." Sky News has chosen not to air the audio of the swear words.
Official Responses and Accusations
The incident has sparked sharply contrasting narratives from officials. A spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security, Tricia McLaughlin, asserted that the deceased was shot after she sought to "weaponise" her vehicle and allegedly attempted to run over an officer. This version aligns with the Trump administration's position that the shooting was an act of self-defence.
However, these claims have been met with fierce rebuttal. Minneapolis mayor Jacob Frey publicly denounced the official account during a news conference, calling those claims "bullshit." The dissemination of the footage by Vice President JD Vance has further intensified national scrutiny of the event, raising critical questions about the use of force and accountability.
