Princess Kate's Cappuccino Rejected by Prince William at Borough Market Visit
Kate's Coffee Rejected by William at Borough Market

Royal Couple's Hands-On Borough Market Adventure

The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, demonstrated her coffee-making abilities during a lively visit to Borough Market with Prince William, though her husband promptly rejected the finished cappuccino. The royal pair immersed themselves in the bustling food market, interacting with vendors and the public, while smartphones captured their every move.

Cappuccino Creation and Immediate Rejection

At Change Please, a social enterprise that trains homeless individuals in coffee retail, Kate stepped behind the counter to craft a cappuccino under the guidance of staff member Lorent Maliqi. After perfecting the milk texture, she handed the drink to William, announcing, "I've made a coffee for you, William." However, when he inquired if it was decaffeinated and she said no, he suggested it should be sold instead. Maliqi praised Kate's effort, noting, "She did really well. I was surprised, she got the texture of the milk right on point – it was a great effort." Kate carried the coffee with her as they continued their tour.

Cheese Sampling and Hands-On Participation

The visit began at the Trethowan Brothers stall, where award-winning cheese from a farm in north Somerset has been sold for nearly three decades. William and Kate sampled Pitchfork Cheddar and Gorwydd Caerphilly cheese, remarking, "That's lunch taken care of." They then assisted behind the counter, with William cutting a wedge of Caerphilly and Kate using string to slice cheddar, which was bagged for later. William expressed amazement when learning customers purchase entire wheels of cheese, stating, "I'm so impressed by that."

Crumble Serving and Public Interaction

Their final stop was Humble Crumble, a business capitalizing on the UK's love for crumble-based desserts. After donning aprons, they helped serve customers, with William scooping fruit and Kate adding toppings or assisting with trifle preparation. Owner Kim Innes shared, "They were really keen to do it and really good at it and they put on aprons and everything. They were both encouraging each other and were complimentary about each other's work."

Public Reaction and Departure

The couple's presence drew dozens of onlookers, with many capturing the moment on their phones. During a brief walkabout, they chatted with Lucy Simpson, 28, and her friend from Australia. William commented on the crumble shop, saying, "We will be out of the way in a minute – that crumble shop is seriously good." Simpson later remarked, "William was lovely and Kate is gorgeous, we've seen them in pictures but it's great to see them in the flesh. He's truly British if he loves his crumble."
