William Rejects Kate's Coffee as It Wasn't Decaf During Market Tour

Royal Couple's Coffee Clash Highlights Borough Market Tour

Prince William and Princess Kate brewed a lighthearted moment during their visit to London's iconic Borough Market on Thursday, March 12, 2026, when the Princess's barista efforts were politely declined by her husband over a caffeine concern.

Decaf Dilemma During Hands-On Engagement

The Princess of Wales demonstrated her coffee-making abilities at Change Please, a social enterprise that trains homeless individuals in coffee retail. After crafting a cappuccino, she presented it to Prince William, saying, "I've made a coffee for you, William." However, when he inquired if it was decaffeinated and she confirmed it was not, he suggested the drink be sold instead, leading Kate to carry the coffee with her as they continued their tour.

Staff member Lorent Maliqi praised Kate's technique, noting, "She did really well. I was surprised, she got the texture of the milk right on point - it was a great effort." The incident occurred amid large crowds gathered to see the royal pair, who actively participated by serving customers during their stop.

Cheese Sampling and Market Exploration

Earlier in the day, William and Kate began their visit at the Trethowan Brothers stall, which has been selling award-winning cheese from a farm in north Somerset for nearly three decades. They sampled handmade Pitchfork Cheddar made with unpasteurised milk and Gorwydd Caerphilly cheese, with Kate remarking, "That's lunch taken care of."

The royal couple then assisted behind the counter, cutting wedges of cheese under the guidance of stall holder Todd Trethowan. Kate used a wire to slice cheddar, which was bagged and given to an aide. Dozens of onlookers packed the busy central London market to capture photos of the engagement.

Crumble and Brewery Interactions

At the Humble Crumble stall, run by Kim Innes, the pair helped serve crumble to customers while wearing aprons. Innes observed, "They were really keen to do it and really good at it. They were both encouraging each other and were complimentary about each other's work."

Prior to the market visit, William and Kate were declared winners in a pint-pulling contest against a brewery founder during a stop at London's Bermondsey Beer Mile, showcasing their hands-on approach throughout the day's activities.
