Afghan Nationals Face Trial Over Alleged Rape of 12-Year-Old Girl in Nuneaton
Two Afghan men have been accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl after approaching her near a playground in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, with disturbing details emerging during a trial at Warwickshire Crown Court.
Chilling CCTV Footage Presented as Evidence
Prosecutors have shown video evidence depicting Ahmad Mulakhil, aged 23, engaging the schoolgirl in conversation on a street in July last year. In the footage, Mulakhil is heard inquiring about her age, suggesting numbers like 20, 19, or 16, to which the victim reportedly responded "nineteen." The pair are then seen walking towards the location where the alleged attack subsequently occurred.
The court heard that the defendants, both described as having no fixed abode, allegedly "targeted" the girl at approximately 6pm. It is claimed that Mohammad Kabir, aged 24, intended to abduct her for sexual purposes, while Mulakhil is accused of raping her after 8pm. Additional CCTV clips displayed the men leaving a park area close to a play space at around 6.05pm on July 22.
Victim Found in "Petrified" State After Alleged Assault
Following the incident, the 12-year-old was discovered in a street, visibly terrified and mumbling to herself. Witnesses described her as "frantic," crying, and repeatedly glancing over her shoulder, expressing fear that her attacker remained nearby in the park across the road.
One witness recounted the girl's harrowing account, stating she said, "he raped me," and reported back pain from being "ragged around." The victim also allegedly told the witness that her assailant threatened to take her to Birmingham and London in a black BMW to rape her again.
Legal Proceedings and Charges Detailed
Mulakhil has entered a guilty plea to one count of oral rape involving the child. However, he denies additional charges, including child abduction, two further rape counts, two sexual assault offences, and taking indecent photographs of a minor.
Kabir faces charges of intentional strangulation, committing an offence with intent to commit a sexual offence, and attempting to take a child, all of which he denies. The trial continues as more evidence is examined.
Prosecutor Daniel Oscroft highlighted the severity of the case, noting the victim's traumatised state and the predatory nature of the alleged crimes. The court proceedings aim to uncover the full extent of the events that have shocked the local community in Warwickshire.
