The legendary Spanish singer Julio Iglesias faces serious allegations of sexual assault from two former female employees, according to a major joint investigation. The women claim they endured inappropriate touching, insults, and humiliation while working at the 82-year-old artist's luxurious Caribbean residences.
Detailed Allegations from Caribbean Mansions
The accusations stem from a three-year probe conducted by the Spanish news outlet elDiario.es and the TV network Univision Noticias. The alleged incidents are said to have occurred in 2021 at Iglesias's properties in the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas. The investigation gathered testimonies from 15 former staff members who worked for the singer between the late 1990s and 2023.
One woman, identified by the pseudonym Rebecca, was a domestic worker. She alleges that Iglesias, then 77, would frequently summon her to his room at night. She claims he would penetrate her anally and vaginally with his fingers without consent, often in the presence of another employee. "He used me almost every night," Rebecca stated. "I felt like an object, like a slave."
The second accuser, known as Laura, worked as a physical therapist. She alleges that Iglesias kissed her on the mouth and touched her breasts without permission on separate occasions, both at the beach and by the pool at his Punta Cana villa.
A Culture of Control and Formal Complaints
Both women described a tense, controlling atmosphere where abuse was normalised. Rebecca referred to the mansion as "the little house of terror." Their accounts are supported by documentary evidence including photographs, messages, and medical reports.
The report also outlines a recruitment system that began with social media ads targeting young women, requesting full-body photographs. The women say Iglesias asked them intimate questions shortly after their arrival.
In a significant development, the two women have now filed a formal complaint with prosecutors at Spain's highest criminal court, the Audiencia Nacional. They are accusing Julio Iglesias of human trafficking and sexual assault.
Defence and Political Reaction
Journalists repeatedly attempted to contact Julio Iglesias and his legal representative for comment but received no response. However, a woman identified by Rebecca as her former supervisor dismissed the claims as "nonsense," praising Iglesias as a respectful gentleman.
The allegations have also drawn a political response. Isabel Díaz Ayuso, the right-wing president of the Madrid region, defended the singer on social media platform X. She criticised the left while stating Madrid would never contribute to discrediting artists, calling Iglesias "the most universal of all singers."
Iglesias, whose career spans six decades and over 300 million records sold, now faces these grave accusations that threaten to overshadow his monumental legacy in the music industry.
