In a deeply emotional and urgent appeal, NBC's Today Show host Savannah Guthrie, alongside her siblings Annie and Cameron, has released a video statement pleading for the safe return of their 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, who vanished from her home near Tucson, Arizona, over the weekend.
Family's Heartfelt Plea for Proof of Life
The video, shared on Instagram on Wednesday, reveals the family's growing desperation as they confront reports of a potential ransom letter from alleged kidnappers. Savannah Guthrie directly addressed these media claims, stating, "We, too, have heard the reports about a ransom letter. As a family, we are doing everything that we can. We are ready to talk."
However, she emphasised the need for concrete evidence, adding, "We live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated. We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her. We want to hear from you and we are ready to listen."
Concerns Over Nancy Guthrie's Fragile Health
The family highlighted Nancy Guthrie's precarious medical condition, which heightens the urgency of the situation. Savannah Guthrie described her mother as being in poor health, with a fragile heart and living in constant pain. Crucially, she is without her essential medication.
"She’s 84 years old. Her health, her heart, is fragile. She lives in constant pain. She is without any medicine. She needs it to survive, and she needs it not to suffer," Guthrie explained in the video, underscoring the life-threatening nature of her absence.
Disappearance and Police Investigation
Nancy Guthrie was last seen by her family at her residence in Arizona on Saturday night. She was reported missing the following afternoon after a family member received a call from a church member noting her absence.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanon has indicated that foul play cannot be ruled out. At a briefing on Monday, he declared, "we do in fact have a crime scene" and suggested she did not leave voluntarily, pointing to suspicious circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
Ongoing Search and Public Appeal
As the search enters its critical phase, Arizona officials have admitted they "don't know where" Nancy Guthrie is, three days after she went missing. The case has drawn significant media attention, partly due to Savannah Guthrie's high-profile role as a television host.
The family's video appeal aims to galvanise public support and encourage anyone with information to come forward, while also directly engaging with potential captors to secure Nancy's release. The situation remains fluid, with authorities continuing their investigation into what they suspect may be a criminal act.
