Charity Dingle Assaulted by Dr Todd
Emmerdale's Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) has endured a horrific assault at the hands of Dr Todd (Caroline Harker), yet she cannot confide in her family due to a web of lies about Leyla's parentage. After getting drunk and confronting Todd, Charity passed out on a sofa, where Todd assaulted her. Upon waking, she threw Todd out and bravely reported the incident to the police. However, Todd was released after brief questioning and proceeded to prey on Charity again.
Cain Dingle's Health Struggles
Meanwhile, Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) is grappling with the aftermath of life-saving surgery and the discovery that his cancer has spread. Both Charity and Cain are pushing loved ones away, though Charity urges Cain to open up to his wife. She cannot do the same, and refuses to tell Cain what truly happened.
Family Misunderstandings
Those closest to Charity believe she is suffering from post-natal depression. Her husband Mack (Lawrence Robb) confides in Chas (Lucy Pargeter) that he does not know how to support her. Chas feels guilty for knowing more than she lets on. Charity rejects Mack again and flees in her car, ending up at the edge of a lake on the verge of a breakdown. Her family grows worried, and Mack decides to call the police.
A Mysterious Stranger
As Charity stares at the lake, she hears a noise and realizes she is not alone. A stranger appears, notices her distress, and urges her to open up. When the stranger reaches out to touch her, a triggered Charity smacks them back. She immediately apologizes, and the stranger reacts kindly, analyzing that Charity reacted to being touched without consent. Charity begins to let her guard down and prepares to talk. This could be the entrance of Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy).
Mack Pressures Chas
Back home, Mack pushes Chas to her limit, demanding to know if she is hiding anything. Chas had previously vowed not to keep Charity's secret much longer, and now she may crumble under pressure.
