Detectives investigating a fatal shooting in north London have announced a £20,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of those responsible, as they reveal the victim was likely killed in a case of mistaken identity.
A Night of Violence in Tottenham
The incident occurred on Waverley Road in Tottenham shortly before 9pm on March 20, 2025. Mahad Abdi Mohamed, aged 27, was shot in the head and died from his injuries. A 26-year-old friend who was with him was also shot in the leg and received hospital treatment.
Scotland Yard believes the attackers were carrying out a targeted attack but tragically targeted the wrong man. The suspects are said to have arrived in a stolen blue Jaguar before switching to a stolen Mitsubishi Outlander to carry out the shooting. The Mitsubishi was later found completely burned out.
The Investigation and a Plea for Information
In the weeks following the murder, police arrested four adult men on suspicion of murder during March and April. All have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Leading the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Rebecca Woodsford made an emotional appeal, particularly as the festive season approaches. "The loss of Mahad weighs heavy every day," she said, "but it will be particularly difficult for his loved ones to carry throughout their first festive season without him."
"There is someone out there who knows what happened that night and we are urging those individuals to find it in their heart to come forward. It could be exactly what we need to locate those responsible," DCI Woodsford added.
How to Help the Police
The Metropolitan Police have issued the substantial reward in hope of securing crucial information. Anyone with details about the case is urged to contact the investigation team directly, quoting reference 7426/20March.
