Greater Manchester Police have launched a public appeal for information following what they describe as a 'vile' attempted robbery in Salford, in which a 95-year-old woman was tied up inside her own home.
Disturbing Details of the Incident
Officers were called to an address in the Little Hulton area of Salford at approximately 11am on Tuesday 27th January 2026. The incident began when a man approached the elderly victim's property and offered to clean her windows. It is believed he used this ruse to gain entry to the home.
Once inside, the suspect allegedly tied the woman's hands together and demanded cash and her purse. The situation was only interrupted when another woman, who was known to the victim, arrived at the address. Her timely intervention caused the assailant to flee the scene.
Police Investigation and Appeal
Detective Inspector Paul Davies, from Greater Manchester Police's Salford district, stated: 'This was a vile incident in which a woman was tied up and threatened in an address, and we are determined to locate the man responsible.'
Thankfully, no physical injuries were reported. The victim is currently receiving support from specialist officers. DI Davies also commended the actions of the friend who confronted the man and alerted the police, noting that her bravery prevented a potentially more serious outcome.
Police are now urgently appealing to the public for assistance. They are asking for any CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage from the Little Hulton area around the time of the incident. They also urge anyone who witnessed anything suspicious to come forward, emphasising that even small pieces of information could be crucial to the investigation.
Description of the Suspect
The suspect is described as a white male, believed to be in his late 60s or early 70s. At the time of the incident, he was reportedly wearing:
- A dark raincoat or jacket
- Jeans
- Dark-coloured shoes
He had short, mousy brown hair which was combed back, and he wore glasses. He was clean-shaven and appeared neat and tidy in his appearance.
