Jewish Ambulances Torched in Golders Green in Suspected Antisemitic Arson Attack
Four ambulances belonging to the Jewish Community Ambulance service, known as Hatzalah, were deliberately set on fire in an arson attack in Golders Green, Northwest London, in the early hours of Monday morning. The Metropolitan Police have launched a hate crime investigation into the incident, which occurred on Highfield Road at approximately 1:40 am on March 23.
Footage circulating on social media appears to show the intense blaze engulfing the vehicles, with reports indicating that explosions were heard in the vicinity. The London Fire Brigade confirmed that multiple cylinders on the ambulances exploded during the fire, causing windows to shatter in a nearby block of flats.
Police Response and Community Concerns
Superintendent Sarah Jackson, who leads policing in the local area, addressed the community concern, stating, "We know this incident will cause a great deal of community concern and officers remain on scene to carry out urgent enquiries." She added that police are examining CCTV footage and believe they are looking for three suspects at this early stage. No arrests have been made yet.
As a precautionary measure, neighboring properties were evacuated, and road closures remain in effect. The fire was brought under control shortly after 3 am, with no injuries reported. All fires have been extinguished, but the incident has left the community shaken.
Ongoing Investigation and Public Appeal
The police are conducting extensive enquiries and have urged anyone with information to come forward. "We would urge anyone with information to please contact us as soon as possible - you can do so anonymously if you wish," Superintendent Jackson emphasized. Authorities are engaging with faith leaders and carrying out additional patrols in the local area to provide reassurance and a highly visible presence.
