Late-night television hosts took aim at President Donald Trump this week, focusing on his upcoming attendance at the White House Correspondents' Dinner and his recent threats against Iran. Jimmy Kimmel led the charge, mocking Trump's sensitivity to comedy and delivering an alternative roast.
Jimmy Kimmel's Alternative Roast
On Thursday, Jimmy Kimmel addressed the upcoming White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) dinner, which Trump has promised will be the "GREATEST, HOTTEST, and MOST SPECTACULAR DINNER, OF ANY KIND, EVER!" Kimmel joked, "The only thing hotter than this dinner are his diapers on the golf course."
This marks Trump's first attendance as president, but the event will not feature a comedian. Instead, the WHCA hired mentalist Oz Pearlman. Kimmel explained, "Our president is a delicate snowflake with the thinnest fat skin of any human being ever, and that means there's going to be no comedian this year." He then delivered his own roast, targeting Trump and his cabinet, including adviser Stephen Miller, whom he called "so racist" and "like if baby Hitler traveled in time to kill us."
Stephen Colbert Weighs In
On the Late Show, Stephen Colbert, a former WHCA dinner host, noted that Trump plans to leave early to avoid press awards. Colbert referenced a Wall Street Journal scoop about a birthday card Trump wrote to Jeffrey Epstein, calling it a "pube doodle." He also mocked the hiring of mentalist Oz Pearlman, questioning how one reads Trump's mind when he "immediately blurted out whatever is just rattling around in his skull."
Seth Meyers on Iran Conflict
Seth Meyers on Late Night criticized Trump's handling of tensions with Iran, noting that his family profits while Americans face price hikes. He joked about a potential Spirit Airlines bailout due to the conflict, saying, "I knew Donald Trump was on tilt, but I didn't think he'd buy Spirit Airlines." Meyers also highlighted Trump's erratic threats to shoot at Iranian ships in the Strait of Hormuz, comparing him to "a degenerate gambler who's losing at the craps table."
