Lewisham's 2026 Local Elections: A Comprehensive Overview
Lewisham Council has officially published the full roster of candidates standing in the highly anticipated local elections scheduled for May 7, 2026. Across the borough's 19 wards, a total of 265 hopefuls are competing for 54 available council seats, setting the stage for a fiercely contested democratic process.
Political Party Breakdown and Candidate Numbers
In a notable development, both the Labour Party and the Conservative Party have fielded 54 candidates each, ensuring representation in every single ward within Lewisham. This strategic move underscores the competitive nature of this election cycle.
The Green Party follows closely with 53 nominees, while the Liberal Democrats have put forward 52 candidates. Reform UK has entered the fray with 35 candidates, demonstrating a significant presence. Other parties and independents include five candidates from the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition, three independents, and three candidates from Your Party.
Smaller parties are also making their mark, with the Christian Peoples Alliance, the Climate Party, the Motoring Party, and the Communist Party of Britain each presenting one candidate. Interestingly, two individuals, Kim Allenby and Raymond Allenby, did not complete all nomination papers, leaving their party affiliations unknown, as reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS).

Key wards include Blackheath, with candidates from Reform UK, Liberal Democrats, Labour and Co-operative Party, Green Party, and Conservatives; Brockley, featuring nominees from Green Party, Reform UK, Labour and Co-operative Party, Liberal Democrats, and Conservatives; and Catford South, with contenders from Conservatives, Liberal Democrats, Reform UK, Green Party, and Labour Party.
Other notable wards are Deptford, where candidates span Labour and Co-operative Party, Liberal Democrats, Conservatives, Green Party, Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition, Reform UK, and Communist Party of Britain; and Evelyn, which includes independents and candidates with no party described alongside representatives from Green Party, Labour and Co-operative Party, Liberal Democrats, Conservatives, and Reform UK.
Lewisham Mayoral Election Candidates
In addition to the council elections, Lewisham residents registered to vote will also elect a new Mayor. Lewisham is one of only five London boroughs with a directly elected mayor, adding an extra layer of significance to the electoral process.
