The Rise and Fall of Birch Selsdon: A £15 Million Investment Gone Sour
Birch Selsdon, originally the De Vere Selsdon Estate with a history dating back to the Anglo-Saxon era, reopened in 2023 after a £15 million renovation. The 181-room hotel and membership club, situated on a 200-acre estate, aimed to be a trendy destination but fell into administration shortly after, leading to its closure. This financial turmoil has resulted in the current auction, managed by Pro Auction, which will handle the sale of the entire contents.
How to Participate in the Auction: Viewing and Bidding Details
The auction will take place on Tuesday, April 14, at 10am, via live on-site bidding and a global online webcast. A viewing event is scheduled for the day before, April 13, from 9.30am to 3.30pm, allowing potential buyers to inspect the items in person at the hotel in Selsdon, South Croydon. The full catalogue is available online, offering a comprehensive look at the lots up for grabs.
This event presents a rare chance for individuals and businesses to purchase high-quality, designer items at bargain prices, making it a notable occurrence in the local property and cultural scenes.
