Wimbledon Village Named Britain's Best High Street 2025
Wimbledon Village has UK's best high street

Property experts at Knight Frank have conducted a nationwide analysis to identify the UK's most desirable high streets, and the prestigious top spot has been awarded to a leafy and affluent enclave in southwest London.

What Makes a Winning High Street?

According to the property consultancy's research, the most coveted high streets across Britain are those that foster a strong community spirit and are populated with independent boutiques, fitness studios, and artisan bakeries. The analysis, which aimed to pinpoint the locations most attractive to home buyers, culminated in a ranking of the nation's five best high streets.

The clear winner was Wimbledon Village, praised for its unique ability to offer a tranquil, village-like atmosphere despite its location within the capital. Sonia Cheng, an associate from Knight Frank's Wimbledon office, highlighted the area's charm, noting, "Despite being in the capital, it truly offers a village-like feel – people greet each other in passing, and there’s a real sense of community."

The Allure of Wimbledon Village

Wimbledon Village secured its number one ranking thanks to a compelling blend of green spaces, cultural attractions, and a vibrant food and drink scene. Key local highlights include the vast Wimbledon Common, with its sprawling grasslands, ponds and woodland; the history-packed Wimbledon Museum; and the popular dim sum restaurant, Good Fortune Club.

The high street was also commended for hosting a selection of upmarket chains, such as Gail's bakery and The Ivy restaurant, adding to its retail appeal.

The Price of Prime Location

This desirability, however, comes at a premium. Living in close proximity to the Village commands a significant price tag. Sonia Cheng confirmed that prospective buyers can expect to pay around 30 percent more compared to other parts of Wimbledon.

Knight Frank's ranking further solidified London's dominance in the high-end property market, with the top three spots all taken by the capital's wealthy neighbourhoods. Following Wimbledon Village, St John's Wood placed second, and Hampstead took third.
