While the stars gathered for the 83rd Golden Globes ceremony on January 11, comedian Ricky Gervais chose a more private viewing party. Opting to watch the glitzy awards show from home, the five-time host skipped the transatlantic flight in favour of his own luxurious surroundings.
A Rare Glimpse Behind Closed Doors
For those curious about the star's domestic life, Gervais had previously offered a revealing look inside his £14 million London mansion. The Office creator shared several photos on social media, providing a rare peek into the plush pad that has since become a talking point among his followers.
The images showcased a grand entrance hall dominated by a sweeping white marble staircase with an elaborate spiralling banister. Gleaming white floors reflected the light, and the space was lined with the comedian's numerous awards and trophies, proudly on display.
Fan Reactions: From 'Beautiful' to 'Psychopath Ward'
The reception to Gervais's interior design choices was sharply divided. While many admirers flooded the comments with praise, a notable contingent drew unexpected comparisons.
One follower remarked on the minimalist, all-white aesthetic, stating it had "that real psychopath mentality ward vibes." Another bluntly commented, "Must be weird living in a private hospital." A third offered a more abstract critique, noting it was "Parkour palatial meets a clockwork orange."
However, other fans were thoroughly impressed. "Looks so full of light!" one posted. Another simply said, "Beautiful home," while others echoed sentiments of awe with comments like "Wow xx."
Gervais's Expansive Property Portfolio
This London mansion is just one part of Ricky Gervais's substantial real estate holdings. Early last year, he revealed he and his partner of 43 years, Jane Fallon, had relocated to this stunning new London property the previous summer.
The couple had previously lived in a £10.8 million home in Hampstead. They now split their time between Britain and America, and also reportedly own a riverside property in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, and two flats in New York City.
Their property journey began humbly. In a 2017 interview, Gervais recalled their first home together: "Our first flat was a one-room in a place called Kings Cross, which was a really rough area. I think it was above some sort of seedy sauna... That's all we could afford. Our little bed was in this room. I could open the fridge from the bed!"
Looking to the future, the comedian has even grander restoration dreams. In a 2024 Q&A, when asked about remaining aspirations, Gervais reflected, "First I think I'd like to build an animal sanctuary somewhere or do up a castle. Get a castle and put it back to its original glory... with air conditioning, plumbing, central heating, double glazing."
