The City of London Nocturne made a triumphant return after an eight-year hiatus, with XTX Markets claiming victory in the Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity City Criterium. The event, which had not been held since 2018, returned as a two-day festival in 2026, bringing cycling back to the streets of the financial district.
Charity Race Details
The charity race featured 12 teams of four riders competing in a criterium format. Each team completed an hour-long race around a 1.3km city circuit, with the four riders dividing the time as they chose. After the hour, professional riders took over for the final 10 laps. XTX Markets' team—Dan Goscomb, Richard Evans, Phil Dehond, and Jake Longo—handed over to three-time Olympic gold medallist Ed Clancy, who secured their victory by just two seconds.
Fundraising for Great Ormond Street Hospital
The race raised funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital's new children's cancer centre. Goscomb expressed his enjoyment, noting the rarity of riding on closed roads. He highlighted the company's long-standing support for the hospital, having participated in velodrome events for five years previously.
Professional Riders and Competition
The event saw Olympic champions Victoria Pendleton and Emma Finucane among the spectators. Clancy described the race as intense, with teams going full gas from the start. He praised the organisers and the City of London for their efforts in reviving the event, expressing hope for its continuation.
