Arsenal are preparing to part ways with Leandro Trossard after accepting a €20million offer from Turkish club Besiktas, according to The Athletic. The 31-year-old Belgian forward played a key role in Arsenal's Premier League title-winning campaign, ending the club's 22-year wait for the crown.
Transfer details and contract situation
The deal consists of an €18million fee with a further €2million in add-ons. Trossard is set to earn wages of around €9million per year at Besiktas. Arsenal gave the Belgium international a pay rise last year but did not extend his contract, which expires in June 2027.
Trossard's impact at Arsenal
Despite criticism of Arsenal's reliance on defensive strengths and set-pieces, Trossard was one of the more consistent forwards last season. He endured a lengthy goalless run but scored a crucial late match-winning goal at West Ham during the run-in. Manager Mikel Arteta is now looking to bolster his forward line from a position of strength.
World Cup involvement
Trossard is currently at the World Cup with Belgium, who advanced after a dramatic comeback win over Senegal in the round of the last 32. He has started all four matches for his country. Belgium face co-hosts USA on Monday in the quarter-finals, and Trossard will finalise his move after the tournament.
Potential replacements
Arsenal have identified several high-profile targets to replace Trossard, who cost £27million from Brighton in January 2023. Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers is the top target, while the club is monitoring Bradley Barcola's situation at Paris Saint-Germain. Arsenal are also exploring a deal for Club Brugge winger Christos Tzolis, which could cost around €40million.
