Wrestler Darby Allin's Brother Set on Fire in Bungled Proposal Stunt
AEW star's brother set alight in failed marriage proposal

Professional wrestler and renowned daredevil Darby Allin found himself in an unexpected firefighting role over the festive period after a planned marriage proposal for his brother combusted in spectacular fashion.

A Flaming Proposal That Backfired

The All Elite Wrestling (AEW) star, known for his death-defying stunts, shared a video on Instagram that documented the ill-fated romantic gesture. In the clip, Darby Allin can be seen using a lighter to set his brother on fire. The sibling then drops to one knee on the ground, ring in hand, to propose to his girlfriend.

Rather than accepting, the woman is seen reacting with laughter before quickly handing a fire extinguisher to Darby and promptly running out of the frame. The 32-year-old wrestler was forced to step in and help his brother, who was rolling on the ground, douse the flames.

Allin captioned the post, "MARRIAGE PROPOSAL GONE WRONG", and elaborated in the comments. "My brother wanted me to light him on fire and he asked his girlfriend to marry him," he wrote. "She got cold feet and took off running instead of putting him out with the fire extinguisher." He added wryly, "Maybe it wasn't to be....."

A History of High-Risk Stunts

For Darby Allin, such extreme antics are almost routine. The former TNT Champion has built his career on a willingness to endanger his body, from jumping over his house in a jeep to diving off a 92-foot waterfall.

In a 2024 interview with Metro, he revealed the most painful injury of his career was a severe concussion sustained in 2017. "I would rather break anything than have your brain be messed up," Allin stated. He described hitting his head on concrete during a match, convulsing, and finishing the bout before being hospitalised with bleeding on the brain.

An Adventurous Mindset

This incident follows another of Allin's recent extreme pursuits. Earlier in 2025, he took a hiatus from AEW to attempt to climb Mount Everest. His first attempt was delayed after he broke his foot and was then hit by a bus.

Speaking to Metro about his Everest preparation, he recalled his trainer's blunt question: "Are you afraid to die?" Allin's response was a simple "No." He explained his philosophy: "I've lived more in the last year than people have in their whole lives... I've done so much already that I never thought was possible."

While his brother's marriage proposal may not have gone to plan, it certainly fits the Allin family's appetite for unforgettable, if perilous, moments.
