Gerwyn Price's 3-Stone Weight Loss Secret Ahead of World Darts Championship
Gerwyn Price reveals simple secret behind 3-stone weight loss

Welsh darts sensation Gerwyn Price has transformed his physique ahead of the World Darts Championship, shedding a remarkable nearly three stone in weight through a straightforward lifestyle change.

The Simple Dietary Tweak

The 40-year-old former rugby player, known as 'The Iceman', begins his quest for a second world title against Adam Gawlas at Alexandra Palace on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. Price, a regular gym-goer, explained that his dramatic weight loss came not from a complex regime, but from a fundamental shift in his eating habits. "I just started to eat a little bit cleaner," Price told the Daily Mail. "I eat at the right times, try and keep in a calorie deficit."

He confirmed the significant results of his efforts: "I have lost almost three stone I think." This transformation has had a tangible impact on his daily life and stage presence. "I am slipping on a large shirt rather than an extra large and my waist size has gone down," he said. "I feel a lot more comfortable in myself when I’m on stage – the energy is obviously still there – I have got a bit more energy for the longer days I think."

Fitness Benefits for the Oche

While darts players are not traditionally associated with peak athleticism, Price is a firm believer that being in shape provides a crucial edge, especially during the marathon sessions of a major tournament like the World Championship. Speaking to The Sun, he clarified his stance: "I wouldn’t say you have to be an athlete. But it’s obviously in your own interests and it benefits you if you aren’t overweight."

He emphasised the advantage for the gruelling longer formats: "Or if you’re in a bit better shape, especially when it gets to the bigger tournaments where it’s longer formats. I’ve done it for myself to get in the best physical shape and mentality as well. Obviously, it makes it a bit easier when you’re not tired."

Resisting Temptation at Chippy501

One of the key challenges in Price's journey has been managing temptation literally on his doorstep. The darts star owns a fish and chip shop, Chippy501 in Markham, Wales, which he opened to fill a gap in the village after the previous establishment closed.

"I live right next door so I am in and out there all the time, especially when I am at home," he admitted to the Mail. However, discipline has been paramount to his success. "I don’t eat a lot of it. I try not to, hence why I have lost a little bit of weight."

As Price steps onto the iconic Alexandra Palace stage, he does so not only as a former champion but as a player who has consciously invested in his physical and mental conditioning, believing that a sharper body contributes to a sharper game in the quest for the Sid Waddell Trophy.
