Arsenal have been given the green light to sign FC Midtjylland forward Dario Osorio, who has been branded the 'next Alexis Sanchez', with the Gunners now in pole position ahead of Liverpool and other Premier League clubs.
Arsenal lead the race for Chilean star
The 22-year-old Chilean international, who can play on either wing or through the middle, enjoyed another productive season with the Danish club, scoring eight goals and registering 10 assists in all competitions. Arsenal registered their interest last year but opted against making an official bid at that time.
Mikel Arteta is determined to strengthen his attack this summer after relying on his side's defensive qualities to end a 22-year wait for the Premier League title. The Gunners have been linked with marquee names like Julian Alvarez, Morgan Rogers and Bradley Barcola, but are also eyeing bargains such as Leicester City's Jeremy Monga and Anderlecht's Christos Tzolis.
Midtjylland director confirms Arsenal interest
Speaking to Standard Sport, FC Midtjylland's sporting director Kristian Kjaer confirmed Arsenal's ongoing interest in Osorio, who has also been linked with Liverpool and Bournemouth. 'We know that Arsenal have been looking into Osorio, but we also know other clubs in the Premier League have done the same,' Kjaer revealed. 'I also think it is well known that Bournemouth looked into him historically. There are other clubs in the Premier League also looking into him.'
Kjaer praised Osorio's attributes, saying: 'In my opinion, he serves the Premier League very, very good because he has a hard-working mentality. His defensive transition runs are amazing, his top speed is amazing. Left-footed right winger can go to the right and to the left of his direct opponent. He has the full package, seen as the next Alexis Sanchez in Chile. I can see him making a difference in the Premier League.'
Arsenal's champions status a factor
Kjaer also suggested Arsenal's status as Premier League champions could sway the deal: 'Arsenal as the champions. I think that might also rock their boat a bit and see how we can keep this position for next season. I don't know. We will see where it all ends up.'
Osorio, who has drawn comparisons to former Arsenal favourite Alexis Sanchez due to his versatility and work rate, looks set to be a key target for Arteta as the club aims to build on their title triumph.
