Arsenal Positioned as Prime Destination for Newcastle's Sandro Tonali in Summer Transfer Window
Arsenal has been named as the most likely Premier League destination for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali if the club decides to sell him during the upcoming summer transfer window. This development follows an earlier approach by Mikel Arteta's side in the closing stages of the January transfer window, which Newcastle promptly rejected.
Newcastle's Stance and Transfer Valuation
Newcastle United originally signed Sandro Tonali in a £55 million deal from AC Milan back in 2023. According to current reports, the club would now demand a transfer fee in excess of £100 million for the 25-year-old Italian midfielder. This significant price increase reflects Tonali's development and value to the Premier League side.
Competition from Juventus and Premier League Preference
Sky Sport Italy's renowned transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio has revealed that Arsenal will face substantial competition from Italian giants Juventus this summer. However, Di Marzio believes Arsenal will maintain the advantage if Tonali expresses a desire to remain in the Premier League.
"I think that Tonali is likely to leave Newcastle because a lot of top European clubs want him," Di Marzio told AceOdds. "Juventus really wants him and he is the number one player on their list. Arsenal really wants him as well, but they didn't really try to sign him in January, because it was simply impossible."
Transfer Strategy and Financial Considerations
Di Marzio elaborated on the transfer dynamics, noting that only one of Tonali or fellow midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is likely to leave Newcastle this summer. "The price will be very high and as I said, only one of Tonali and Guimaraes will leave, so they can't both leave the club," he explained.
The transfer expert emphasized Arsenal's strong interest, stating "Arsenal is the most likely destination for Tonali in the Premier League but they are really interested in him."
Tonali's Personal Considerations and Future Plans
Di Marzio revealed several personal factors that could influence Tonali's decision. "I am not sure if he wants to stay in the Premier League, because he might want to go back to Italy. I think he misses Italy, but the Premier League is the top league, so he still has to decide what he wants to do."
The financial aspect presents another significant consideration. "It also depends on who can afford him, because it will be difficult for Juventus to pay the price, and they have to qualify for the Champions League, otherwise they don't have the money to buy him."
Arsenal's Advantage and Tonali's Career Ambitions
Despite the competition from Juventus, Di Marzio maintained that "if he leaves Newcastle and wants to stay in the Premier League, Arsenal for sure is the most likely destination."
The transfer expert also highlighted Tonali's personal circumstances and professional aspirations. "But he really likes Serie A and I think he wants to play in Serie A again. He also had a child, so even if he stays in the Premier League, it might not be more than two or three years. I also think he wants to show the Italian fans how good he is, probably being the best Italian midfielder."
This potential transfer represents a significant development in the summer transfer market, with Arsenal positioning themselves as serious contenders for one of the Premier League's most talented midfielders.
