Arsenal Eye Borussia Dortmund's Diant Ramaj as Future Goalkeeper Option
Arsenal target Dortmund's Ramaj as potential Raya back-up

Arsenal have identified Borussia Dortmund's Diant Ramaj as a potential future signing to bolster their goalkeeping ranks, according to reports emerging from Germany.

Scouting Mission for Heidenheim Loanee

The Premier League leaders have been closely tracking the 24-year-old German shot-stopper, who is currently spending the season on loan at Bundesliga side Heidenheim. Arsenal scouts have watched Ramaj on multiple occasions this campaign and are said to be impressed, particularly with his excellent distribution skills.

This interest was confirmed by Christian Falk, Head of Football at SPORT BILD, during the publication's podcast. "Yes, that's true. Ramaj is on Arsenal's list," Falk stated. He noted that any deal would require negotiations with Dortmund, as Ramaj is only on loan at Heidenheim.

A Forward-Thinking Move for the Gunners

The potential move is viewed as a forward-looking option rather than an immediate necessity. David Raya, 30, cemented himself as Mikel Arteta's undisputed number one after joining permanently in July 2024 following a successful initial loan. His form has made him one of the league's most complete goalkeepers.

Current deputy Kepa Arrizabalaga, 31, was signed last summer for £5 million and is understood to be content with his role, despite making only two Carabao Cup appearances. However, Arsenal's hierarchy appears to be planning for the longer term.

Ramaj's situation is intriguing. He joined Dortmund from Ajax in February 2025 for a fee in excess of €5 million and has a contract running until June 2029. With Gregor Kobel firmly established as Dortmund's first choice, Ramaj has been clear about his need for playing time. "That's why it's clear to me that I'm not going to sit on the bench in Dortmund," he said upon leaving for Heidenheim.

What Happens Next for Ramaj?

His loan at Heidenheim concludes in the summer of 2026. Should Kobel remain at Signal Iduna Park, Ramaj will likely seek a permanent move to secure regular football. Christian Falk suggested a transfer to Arsenal could "quickly become more concrete" in such a scenario, labelling the North London club an "interesting" destination for the player.

At 24, Ramaj represents a goalkeeper with significant potential and a good age profile for development. While he would initially arrive as a back-up option, his acquisition would provide strong competition and a long-term view for a key position at the Emirates Stadium.
