Bosnich: Amorim's £18m Lammens Signing Can Win Man Utd the Premier League
Bosnich: Lammens can be foundation for Man Utd title win

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Mark Bosnich has made a bold claim, stating that Ruben Amorim's shrewd summer signing of Senne Lammens could be the foundational piece that finally returns the Premier League title to Old Trafford.

The Bargain Signing Solving United's Puzzle

Despite a lavish summer outlay of almost £200 million on attackers Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko, Bosnich believes it was the last-minute acquisition of goalkeeper Senne Lammens that may prove most significant. United secured the 23-year-old Belgian from Royal Antwerp for an initial £18.2 million on transfer deadline day.

Initially expected to provide competition, Lammens rapidly established himself as manager Ruben Amorim's first-choice goalkeeper, displacing both Altay Bayindir and loaned-out Andre Onana. Bosnich told the Daily Mail that this move has "solved a big piece of the puzzle" for the Red Devils, who have conceded 26 goals in 16 league games this season.

Courtois Comparisons and Premier League Proof

Bosnich, who played for United, Aston Villa, and Chelsea, highlighted the unique challenges of English football for goalkeepers, citing its pace, intensity, and physical aerial battles. He argues Lammens has adapted exceptionally well.

"He reminds me a bit of Thibault Courtois," Bosnich said, drawing parallels with the fellow Belgian superstar. "He's very, very good with his feet... He's already adjusted to the pace and dynamic nature of the English game." He confidently labelled Lammens as United's "long-term keeper."

The ex-keeper contrasted Lammens's immediate impact with Onana's struggles, suggesting the Cameroonian was better protected by his defenders at Inter Milan and found it hard to adapt to the combative Premier League style.

Box Dominance: The Key Quality for a Title Defence

Bosnich pinpointed Lammens's commanding presence as his most critical attribute for a potential title challenge. "The thing I really like about Lammens is that he dominates his box," he stated, comparing this trait to legends like Bruce Grobbelaar and Peter Schmeichel.

He explained that this dominance creates certainty for the entire defence, lifts the back four's performance, and even spreads confidence through the crowd. In an era where set-pieces are increasingly decisive, Bosnich believes having a keeper unintimidated by high balls is vital.

"It's a big piece of the puzzle that they have solved with his signing," Bosnich reiterated. "The uncertainty around the goalkeeping position was an obstacle to the progress United need to make. Now that they've found a solution in Lammens, I think it can help to be the foundation for them finally to have another title-winning side."

United's quest for a first Premier League crown since Sir Alex Ferguson's 2013 retirement continues. Their recent 4-4 draw with Bournemouth leaves them sixth in the table, two points off the Champions League places, underscoring the need for the defensive solidity Lammens is predicted to provide.
