Leicester City manager Marti Cifuentes is set for an emotional return to Loftus Road this weekend, facing his former club Queens Park Rangers for the first time since his summer departure.
A 'Special' Return for the Former Boss
The Foxes' boss, who took charge of 83 matches during his tenure in West London, has spoken warmly about his impending comeback. Cifuentes was appointed at QPR in October 2023 and is credited with steering the club away from relegation danger.
Despite leaving under a cloud of controversy after talks with West Brom and a subsequent period of 'gardening leave', the Spaniard holds no ill will. "It's one of those games that at the beginning of the season, I look at the calendar because it's always nice to go back to the place where you were happy," Cifuentes revealed. "And I was very happy for two seasons at QPR, so it's going to be special."
Praise for Successor and Tight League Standings
Cifuentes was also quick to commend the work of his successor, Julien Stephan, who has maintained the club's competitive edge. The upcoming fixture sees the two managers' sides locked in a close battle in the Championship table.
Interestingly, Leicester City sit 8th, just one place and level on points with QPR in 9th, setting the stage for a crucial encounter. Cifuentes acknowledged the team's progress under Stephan, stating, "I'm happy to see they are doing well."
Leicester Finding Form Ahead of Crucial Clash
Cifuentes arrives with his Leicester side enjoying their best run of the season. The Foxes have taken seven points from their last three games, beating Derby County and Ipswich Town and drawing with Bristol City.
The manager believes his team is finally finding its rhythm after a tough start to life in the Midlands. "Seven from nine is good, but I would be happier with nine from nine," he said. "When we have managed to get some continuity and the framework has been clear... the team has been taking some steps forward."
With a preferred starting XI now seemingly settled, Leicester will aim to continue their purple patch in what promises to be a poignant and pivotal Championship showdown at Loftus Road.
