Ever since Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) discovered that Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) planted the evidence that sent her to prison in Emmerdale, she has been desperate to tell her husband Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley). However, Cain's mind has been clouded by fears of death and impotence, leaving him unable to hear the truth. Moira has struggled with this knowledge herself, and when she learned that Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) was the real mastermind, she grabbed a shotgun and marched to Home Farm. Joe remains unscathed, and Cain still knows nothing about Robert's involvement.
Moira has always been honest with Robert and Aaron (Danny Miller), promising that at the first opportunity after Cain's surgery, she would reveal the truth. The day of the surgery arrives, and Cain and Moira try to stay strong for each other. It is a worrying time as Cain is wheeled off, but they soon receive good news that the operation went well. However, Cain's relief is short-lived when he notices his catheter and immediately fears it will become a permanent fixture, leading to a future of incontinence. He also sees blood in his urine, which sends his anxiety skyrocketing.
Cain's Post-Surgery Struggles
Jeff Hordley explains, 'He's peeing blood. It's frightening him, because he hasn't taken all the information in beforehand at the meetings prior to this.' Cain spirals and pulls tricks to avoid being discharged, disappointing Moira. She calls in Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) to help straighten his head. Sarah succeeds, and Cain agrees to go home, but he is not himself. When Aaron and Robert visit, Cain loses his temper at the strange atmosphere he senses. But there is a reason for the tension.
Moira's Confession Sparks Rage
Moira is forced to come clean, revealing to Cain that Robert had her sent away by planting IDs in her house for the police to find. The red mist descends, and Cain's need for revenge is immediate. Jeff says, 'He thinks it would be a good idea to go round there, so he takes a hammer, takes Sam, and ties Robert up in a chair just to get information out of him...' All of this while still wearing a catheter bag strapped to his leg. He adds, 'This guy has made so many mistakes in the past, as far as Cain's concerned. Already taking the farm in his eyes off him, but then to find out that he was instrumental in Moira going inside, he just sees the red mist descend. He finds the strength to go round with a hammer.'
Robert investigates a noise in the barn and is knocked unconscious. He wakes up tied to a chair and realizes Cain is there to make him pay for his actions, with a hammer in hand for persuasion. The question remains: will Sam stop Cain from doing something awful?
