Chelsea icon John Terry has moved swiftly to quash speculation connecting him with the managerial vacancy at Championship side Oxford United. The former England captain, currently working within Chelsea's academy setup, took to social media to make his position unequivocally clear.
Terry's Firm Rejection on Social Media
In a video posted on TikTok, the 45-year-old addressed the rumours head-on. Terry stated he was "certainly not on the lookout for a job" and expressed confusion over where the stories originated. He emphatically ruled himself out of contention for the position at the Kassam Stadium.
"I've spoken about how much I love my role at Chelsea in the academy," Terry explained. He highlighted his focus on progressing young players through the ranks to the first team as a key reason for his satisfaction with his current post, which he returned to in July 2023.
Oxford's Search After Rowett Departure
The rumours emerged after Oxford United parted ways with manager Gary Rowett on December 23rd. Chairman Grant Ferguson acknowledged Rowett's work in keeping the club in the Championship last season but said the board had to make a "difficult decision" following a poor run of form.
