Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill) has resorted to unconventional methods to prove he can be a good father to Lewis Barton (Bradley Riches) in Emmerdale. After revealing he is Lewis's biological father by singing Boyzone's Father and Son, Kev's latest grand gesture—renaming his bakery van to 'Barton's Cake Tin'—has backfired spectacularly.
Kev's Van Name Change Sparks Tension
In a newly released spoiler video, Lewis returns home and ignores Kev's attempts to get his attention. When Kev refers to him as 'son', Lewis reluctantly looks over and sees the renamed van. Lewis demands Kev change it back, but Kev reveals he has legally changed his own name to Kevin Barton. Unimpressed, Lewis tells Kev to leave him alone.
Kev's intention was to protect Lewis from his own troubled past, including a criminal record and prison time. However, the surprise gesture only pushes Lewis further away.
Honest Conversation Changes Everything
Later in the week, Kev explains the tragedy of his past and why he became a 'wrong'un', vowing never to return to prison. According to spoilers, this honest conversation gives the moment emotional weight and strengthens his bond with Lewis.
When Ross Barton (Michael Parr) arrives and threatens Kev, Lewis softens and says he wants to give his dad a chance. The lesson Kev learns is that honest conversations work far better than surprises.
