Morgan Rogers keen on Arsenal move after Rice talks, £100m fee set
Morgan Rogers keen on Arsenal move after Rice talks

Morgan Rogers is reportedly 'quite keen' to join Arsenal this summer after discussing the move with England World Cup teammate Declan Rice. Mikel Arteta has made Rogers one of his top targets after the 23-year-old scored 14 goals and made 11 assists in all competitions, helping Aston Villa qualify for the Champions League and win the Europa League.

Arsenal lead the race for Rogers

The Times reports that new Premier League champions Arsenal are set to 'accelerate' interest in Rogers and are 'confident' they can see off competition from Manchester United and Chelsea. A move to Old Trafford would reunite Rogers with former Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick, while Chelsea are set for a rebuild under Xabi Alonso.

Rogers, currently at the World Cup with England, insisted earlier this month that his sole focus is on international commitments. However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says the deal is 'advanced' on the player's side, with Rice playing a key role in persuasion.

£100m price tag and potential role

Arsenal must still agree a fee with Aston Villa, who want at least £100m for the midfielder. Rogers came on as a substitute in England's World Cup opener against Croatia and could operate on Arsenal's left flank or in a more central role.

Jermaine Jenas has questioned the move, telling 10bet: 'Unless someone is leaving, what's really the point of Rogers going there? It makes no sense. He'd find himself on the bench.' Jenas advised Rogers to stay at Villa, where he is a key player heading into the Champions League.

Arsenal's other targets and exits

Arsenal are also keen on Argentina striker Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid, who are reluctant to sell. The Gunners are ready to sanction exits for several current players and have received a £17m offer for winger Leandro Trossard.
