Newcastle's Livramento Doubtful for Chelsea Clash, Hall Could Return
Newcastle injury update: Livramento out, Hall hopeful

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has delivered a concerning update on defender Tino Livramento, casting major doubt over his availability for this weekend's crucial Premier League fixture against Chelsea.

Livramento's Knee Injury a Major Concern

The 23-year-old full-back was forced off during the second half of Newcastle's 2-1 Carabao Cup victory over Fulham at St James' Park on Wednesday night. The problem is with his left knee, an area that has caused him significant issues in the past.

Livramento suffered a devastating ACL tear in the same knee back in April 2022 while at Southampton, an injury that sidelined him for almost a full year. He also missed two months of this current campaign due to ligament damage in that left knee.

Howe did not hide his worry after the match, stating: 'Tino's injury is the big negative. We don't know but it's not looking good. It looks like a knee problem, and Tino's had issues with knee injuries before.'

The manager added that the player's immediate reaction was a worrying sign, indicating Livramento is unlikely to feature against his former club Chelsea on Saturday.

Positive News on Lewis Hall's Fitness

In more encouraging news for the Magpies, fellow defender Lewis Hall could be in line for a return to the squad. The teenager missed the Fulham match with tightness in his hamstring but is now in contention.

'Lewis, we're more positive on,' Howe confirmed. 'He couldn't play today because of tightness in his hamstring. But he has a chance for Chelsea.' His potential return would offer a welcome boost to Newcastle's depleted defensive options.

Newcastle's Extensive Injury List

The potential loss of Livramento further lengthens an already worrying injury list for Eddie Howe. The club provided a full update on their absent players:

  • Nick Pope: Groin injury – return in December
  • Dan Burn: Chest injury – 4-6 weeks out
  • Kieran Trippier: Thigh injury – return in January
  • Emil Krafth: Knee injury – return in January
  • Sven Botman: Back injury – return unknown
  • Will Osula: Ankle injury – return unknown

Howe also gave an update on midfielder Joelinton, who was an unused substitute against Fulham. The Brazilian is nursing a groin problem and is only considered fit for emergency situations at present.

With the visit of Chelsea looming, Newcastle face a significant challenge fielding a fit and competitive back line, making Hall's possible recovery even more critical.
